“Among all approaches available to the company owner for selling all or part of his shares, an IPO generates – on average – the best value. Why is that so? There is no definite answer… The question for an owner is not why markets behave as they do, but how to maximize the value of his assets”. In light of an International IPO-Forum “IPO Prospects for Ukrainian companies”, Robert Schaus, partner, prepared an article for “Roundtable” bulletin published by a team of “Corporate development in Ukraine” project of International Finance Corporation. The article offers several practical advices for companies preparing its shares for placement on a stock-exchange.

According to Mr. Schaus, the ultimate value of the floating will be formed by owner and management of the company in the years and months before the actual IPO. Decisions taken today will influence the way the company is perceived by future investors tomorrow, and correspondingly – the future price of a share. Mr. Schaus provides some simple rules which will help company owner to maximize the value of his business during the initial public offering of shares.
